Van Halen are to record their first album with original frontman David Lee Roth since 1984’s ‘1984’.

The band have signed to Interscope Records for a deal which includes recording, touring, marketing and merchandising, reports Rolling Stone.

Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth in 1985 and the rock band last released an album in 1998, ‘Van Halen III’. Their 11th record, it featured Gary Cherone of Extreme on vocals.

Van Halen toured in 2007 and 2008 with David Lee Roth back on vocals. A source has said to the Hollywood Reporter that Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine was personally involved with signing Van Halen to his label.

The source is quoted as saying: "He heard the band was available and wanted to work with them. It was decided at the eleventh hour." It was previously rumoured that the band would be signing with Columbia, but David Lee Roth had reservations about signing with a record label based on the East Coast of the United States.

It was also previously rumoured that Van Halen would be performing at the Grammy Foundation’s nomination event on November 30. However, a source has told Rolling Stone that they will not be appearing.

Ah the classic video for "Panama" below...will the new stuff sound
like this????
