Thomas Mars, frontman of Phoenix, has married Sofia Coppola at a private ceremony at Plazzo Margherita, a villa in Bernalda, Italy owned by the Coppola family.

The pair have two children together, Romy, 5, and Cosima, 1 and first met when Coppola was working on the soundtrack to her 1999 film The Virgin Suicides.

Coppola was previously married to fellow director Spike Jonze, but they divorced in 2003. Jonze went on to have a relationship with Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Coppola was walked down the aisle and given away by her father Francis Ford Coppola, who directed The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. It’s rumoured that Coppola’s cousins, the actors Nicolas Cage and Jason Schwartzman were in attendance at the ceremony, alongside Johnny Depp and Star Wars head honcho George Lucas, reports People.

Coppola wore a lavender coloured dress for the ceremony, which was officiated by the mayor of Bernalda, Leonardo Chiruzzi.

Arctic Monkeys will not return to the studio until 2013!?

Arctic Monkeys are taking a break from the recording studio until 2013.

The Sheffield band have revealed that they won’t be writing on the road and will be skipping out on recording next year too, reports The Sun.

Frontman Alex Turner said:
I don't really write on the road any more. We come up with a few ideas on soundchecks and that but I have written too many terrible lyrics touring around. As yet there is no plan to return to the studio next year, we're keeping our heads down.

He added:
It's hard to do the old chip shop rock'n'roll. After you've done it once, you don't sort of hang around that many chippies any more. I think it's natural, I couldn't ever write about my surroundings in the same way as I did back then.

Yesterday Arctic Monkeys posted an online trailer from their two headline shows at Sheffield's Don Valley Bowl, suggesting that they may be putting together a DVD from their performances.

The 93 second clip, called Don Valley Bowl Trailer, features footage from the band playing live at the June gigs, hanging out backstage and general crowd shots, suggesting that it may be being compiled into a general DVD package. The trailer however is not accompanied by any release details. To see it, scroll down.

The band headlined last weekend's V Festival and are currently preparing for their full UK arena tour, which will start in October.

Check out the trailer for their possible dvd below!

well that was quick....!

Liam Gallagher has dropped his planned lawsuit against brother Noel after he apologized over his comments about the band's cancellation of their headline set at V Festival in 2009.

It was reported on Friday (August 20) that the Beady Eye frontman had filed a lawsuit against his brother after his comments that he pulled out of V Festival due to a hangover, however after Noel apologised in an online webchat for his statement, he has now dropped the action.

A source told The Sun:
Liam had spoken to his mum Peggy and she was upset by the whole episode. That was playing on his mind then he had a moment of realisation that Noel wasn't being vindictive - he was just being cheeky. It was an anger that had built up over two years because he was so angry Oasis was over.

It continues:
In the cold light of day he realised his brother was actually being quite calm about it all, and decided a legal battle was a bad idea. Hopefully that will draw a line under it all and everyone can move on.
Liam's decision comes after Noel issued an apology during an online webchat with fans. He said of his comments:
Unfortunately there is truth in it. But you know, for the record it is a fact that he was diagnosed with laryngitis and it is a fact that he had a doctor's note to prove it. But I'd just like to say though, if he gets offended by my opinions on such things then you know I apologise but it's all getting very silly and a little bit out of hand and it’s not very cool.

Noel Gallagher admits that Liam had laryngitis before fateful V Festival cancellation...

Video: Noel Gallagher - Web Chat Q&A
Noel Gallagher has said that he believes his ongoing spat with brother Liam is "getting very silly."

During an online webchat with fans, which you can watch by clicking above, Gallagher spoke about the news that his brother was suing him over comments he made about the band's cancelled performance at V Festival in 2009 and said he apologized to his brother if he felt "offended", but that he believed things were getting out of hand.

Asked whether there was any truth to the story of a lawsuit, he replied:
Unfortunately there is truth in it. But you know, for the record it is a fact that he was diagnosed with laryngitis and it is a fact that he had a doctor's note to prove it.
He continued:
But I'd just like to say though, if he gets offended by my opinions on such things then you know I apologise but it's all getting very silly and a little bit out of hand and it’s not very cool. But there you go.

Jackson concert promoters remove Kiss from lineup

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Organizers of a Michael Jackson tribute concert dropped Kiss from the lineup after receiving widespread criticism for booking the band despite critical comments toward the late pop singer by bassist Gene Simmons.
The announcement Tuesday came a day after Global Live Events announced Kiss would join the show planned for Oct. 8 in Cardiff, Wales. Fans, media and the singer's estate quickly noted that Simmons has said in recent years that he was convinced Jackson molested children. Some of the critical comments came within days of Jackson's June 2009 death.
Jackson was acquitted of molestation charges after a 2005 trial in California.
Some of Simmons' harshest comments came last year in an interview with Classic Rock magazine. "Well, you know, where there's smoke there's fire," Simmons said regarding accusations that Jackson abused young boys. "There's no question in my mind he molested those kids. Not a doubt."
Global Events Live CEO Chris Hunt accepted blame, calling Kiss' booking an "oversight."
"Under the circumstances, we fully agree that even though Kiss is a band Michael admired, we have no choice but to rescind our invitation to them to appear in our tribute concert," Hunt wrote in a statement.
A spokeswoman for the band was not immediately available for comment.
It is the latest stumble for a show that is endorsed by Jackson's mother and several siblings but is opposed by brothers Jermaine and Randy. The brothers have noted that the show is scheduled to happen during the involuntary manslaughter trial of a doctor charged in Michael Jackson's death.
Fans have protested ticket prices —which start at nearly $100 — the lineup and the show's faraway location since "Michael Forever — The Tribute Concert" was announced last month.
Howard Weitzman, an attorney for Jackson's estate, questioned the show in a letter sent to Hunt on Tuesday, questioning whether any of the show's proceeds would be going to charity, as promoters have claimed.
Kiss' departure leaves Smokey Robinson, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green as the show's superstars.

Kiss join line-up for Michael Jackson tribute concert

Kiss have been added to the line-up for the upcoming Michael Jackson tribute concert.

The stadium rockers join Christina Aguilera, Leona Lewis, JLS, Cee Lo Green, Smokey Robinson and Craig David at the gig, which is scheduled for October 8 at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

The decision to book
Kiss for the concert will come as a surprise to many Michael Jackson fans after the band's outspoken bass player Gene Simmons made comments last year in which he admitted he associated the late singer with paedophilia.

He told
Classic Rock Magazine of Jackson:
No matter what my fond memories and fond images of Michael were, with one allegation of paedophilia after another and another and another…Oh dear... The only sexual references ever made about Michael Jackson that were made by anyone, anywhere around the world, have always been made by kids, and specifically males usually 10 to 14 years of age; never females, that age or older, and never grown men.

The concert, which is being organised by Jackson's mother Katherine, has divided opinion in the the singer's family. His sister
La Toya, Tito, Marlon and Jackie are thought to be supportive, but Jermaine and Randy have described it as 'inappropriate' and 'ill-timed'.

MGMT Get Bombarded by Shoes at California Surf Event -- check out the vid below!

Austin Powers once famously asked, "Who throws a shoe? Honestly?" Well James Richardson of MGMT learned this weekend that a gigantic crowd of festivalgoers will readily throw their sneakers, sandals or whatever else they're wearing if you ask them to.

Speaking to the audience at
US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, Calif., Richardson yelled, "I don't think you guys got crazy enough yet! Everybody give me your left shoe, right now!" and was promptly pelted with assorted footwear. After dodging the barrage he conceded "That was probably a bad idea."

Now we all know what not to do when in front of gigantic crowds willing to comply with the most outlandish requests. Next time, ask for something soft..!!

Noel Gallagher: 'I'm Not Technically Proficient Enough to Attempt All Kinds of Music'

Former Oasis guitarist has new album, tour in the works

By Andy Greene
August 8, 2011 12:35 PM ET
Noel Gallagher london
Noel Gallagher in London.

Noel Gallagher's new project Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds came together in large part because he was bored. "I was in a band, right?" the former Oasis guitarist says. "And I left. And then I wrote some songs. I had a lot of songs left over from the band. And then I wrote some other songs. And after a couple of years sitting 'round the house, I had a baby. Moved house. My wife decided it was time for me to do something because I was annoying her."
The group's name was inspired by two 1960s rock bands. "I was listening to Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and I was going 'Oh, Noel Gallagher's something,'" he says. "And then I was rooting through CDs one day and there it was - 'High Flying Bird' by the Jefferson Airplane. And I was like, 'Fucking hell, I'm a genius. I'm a fucking genius.'"
Gallagher recruited many of his longtime friends to join the High Flying Birds, including guitarist David McDonnell and bassist Russell Pritchard. He says that the recording of their self-titled album – in stores on October 17th – was more creatively fulfilling than his last few albums with Oasis. "To be in a band you have to accept that it's going to be a compromise," he says. "This time I didn't have to explain to anybody how it goes. I was sick to death of writing out lyrics for other people. It was a very serene, peaceful process of recording. I'm sure that's going to be offset by fucking utter chaos and frustration on the live side."
The disc was produced by Dave Sardy, who produced the last two Oasis albums. Gallagher says he had little interest in making the album sound different than his work with Oasis. "I've got a certain style and I've got no control over what I write," he says. "I'm not technically proficient enough to attempt all kinds of music. I wish I could write a fucking record like Raw Power or Wish You Were Here, or have the ability of a musical chameleon. But fuck it, I'm not. I just write these songs because they're real to me and they're coming from a place of truth. And that's it. I don't give a shit about being different. I want to be the same. And that in itself makes me different."
As of now, only a brief British theater tour is on the books for late October – but Gallagher says that many more shows are coming, including an American run of dates in November. "I've been playing stadiums for the past 10 years," he says. "Only time I set foot in a theater is to go see a fucking play. So it's going to be a lot more smaller and I am kind of trepidatious about it. I've got to see it."
Many people – including this reporter – have unsuccessfully tried to convince Gallagher that it'll be a nice change of pace to play smaller venues where he can actually see the faces of the audience. "No, fuck off," he says. "No, I don't want to see anybody's face. I don't want anybody to fucking talk to me between the songs. I don't want to fucking sign anything for anybody. I'm used to people being a mile away. That suits me. It's more nerve-wracking playing in front of people who are two feet away from me."
This line of thought goes on for a while. "People keep saying, 'Oh, it'll be great to get out of your comfort zone.' " he says. "It's like, 'Fuck you!' Get out of your fucking comfort zone! It fucking took me 20 years to build a comfort zone. I have no fucking intention of stepping outside of mine. Not for no fucker. That's fucking gone! Fucking comfort zone bastard. I'm in the process of building another one and believe you me, I won't be stepping outside of this one."
The show will largely focus on Gallagher's new material, but he will play some tracks by Oasis. "I'm only playing songs that I've written," he says. "It's not like I'm Morrissey and I'm playing a song that somebody else wrote for me. I wrote all these songs with all those words. They're my songs. I'm not doing songs from the Oasis catalog that you associate with Liam. I can't sing like he sings. I'm not even doing that many Oasis songs, to be honest. Out of an hour and a half total, there'll be 10 minutes of Oasis. So maybe four songs. I don't ever see a day where I don't play Oasis songs. I've always thought most bands should play Oasis songs, anyway. The Foo Fighters should definitely do a couple. Green Day could do even more than one or two. Radiohead? I mean, let's face it. It'd be a better night out."

Weezer played a cover of Foster The People's 'Pumped Up Kicks' on their North American tour earlier this week - scroll down and click below to see fan footage of the performance.

Rivers Cuomo's band included the track in their set at the Pacific Amphitheatre as part of the Orange County Fair on Thursday (August 4), alongside their regular cover of Radiohead's 'Paranoid Android'.

Elsewhere, the four-piece played a set leaning on earlier material such as 'Buddy Holly' and 'Hash Pipe' with a smattering of more recent tracks, such as 2009's '(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To'.

Speaking to Spin.com about the nod, Foster The People bassist Cubbie Fink said it was "kind of mind-blowing" to be covered by Weezer.

Frontman Mark Foster added:
Nine years ago, I met Rivers Cuomo at a party, and I had my acoustic guitar with me. He taught me how to play 'Say It Ain't So.' So nine years later, to watch him play one of my songs - it was wild. I can't wait to meet him and remind him of that story.
Weezer have further North American dates lined up across the next three months, including festivals slots at Calgary's X-Fest and Chicago RiotFest.

Coldplay Go Epic in Lolla Debut

Chris Martin / Photo by Dave Mead for Lollapalooza
Chris Martin / Photo by Dave Mead for Lollapalooza

Catharsis can come in many forms, but there are certain times where it’s best felt in the middle of an enormous crowd. Coldplay closed out the first day of Lollapalooza as only Coldplay can: equal parts epic and endearing, with tens of thousands of fans singing in unison. Oddly enough, it was the London quartet’s first time at the fest.
“It took us 20 years to get to Lollapalooza,” said Chris Martin. (Of course, the band only formed in 1996.) “You guys are making four men’s dreams come true.”

One could chalk the sentiment up to English manners, but that’s the thing about the star singer-songwriter — in his hands, sentiment never feels like a put-on. When SPIN arrived, the band was in the midst of their 2000 breakthrough “Yellow” (whilst bathed in amber stage light, no less). Without missing a beat, they rolled into 2002’s ubiquitous “In My Place,” seemingly just cranking out the midtempo megahits, but Martin handily disarmed cynics with a few simple words:
“Let’s sing it together, come on.”
It’s no secret that Coldplay’s lyrics aim straight for that main vein where universal heartache meets everyman yearning, but experienced in the middle of a sea positively frothing with those same emotions, that broad-stroke general interest bigness becomes strikingly personal. Who can’t graft the following couplet, from “Scientist,” onto some bit of sadness in their own life?
“Nobody said it was easy / No one ever said it would be this hard.”
The band pulled another trick too — one far more impressive. In between the inescapable familiars (including a spiky, percussive remake of “God Put a Smile Upon Your Face”) and a handful of new ones from their pending fifth album, Coldplay frequently dipped back to their debut Parachutes. The best moments were “Shiver” and “Everything’s Not Lost,” and on each, they managed to sound like a much smaller act — four guys not yet famous, but aiming for those stars (the yellow ones, of course).

Iron Maiden: 'We'll make at least one more album'

Photo: Photo: PA
Iron Maiden will make "at least one more album" - but are planning to stick to their tried and tested metal template.

Speaking to the
Daily Star, frontman Bruce Dickinson confirmed plans are in place for a follow-up to 2010's 'The Final Frontier', which was the 15th studio LP of the veteran band's career.

However, he admitted that the group are aware of the "boundaries" of what they can do musically and ruled out an unlikely hip-hop collaboration, commenting:
We're not the kind of band who could say: 'Hey, let's do an album with Kanye West' because that wouldn't interest Maiden fans at all.
Dickinson added that the band often struggle to discuss ideas for new material with each other, concluding:
We try to keep things on an even keel. Being English we still have some reserve when we're communicating ideas to each other. If we hugged each other we'd have to go straight into rehab
It was thought that the band were set to quit music following the release of 'The Final Frontier', with guitarist Adrian Smith stating in 2008 that they had only ever expected to release 15 albums. However, a year later he said there had been a shift in attitudes in the group and that they were keen to carry on.

Coldplay pay tribute to Amy Winehouse with 'Rehab' cover – check it out below

Photo: Photo: Tom Martin/NME

Coldplay have paid tribute to Amy Winehouse with a brief cover of one of her most famous songs.

During the
Splendour In The Grass festival in Australia, Chris Martin added the chorus of Amy's hit single 'Rehab' into the opening bars of 'Fix You'.

As you can hear in the video below, the Australian crowd lent their voices to the singalong with gusto.

Posting on their website, the band said:

There's little that can be said about Amy Winehouse's passing that hasn't already been said. It's just such a sad waste. We'll leave aside the awful irony and just let the Aussie choir sing.

Kings of Leon's Cancelled Tour Could Be Very Expensive

Lloyd's of London might have to pay up to $15 million in insurance claims

Kings of Leon lead singer Caleb Followill
Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic
The official reason that Kings of Leon abruptly canceled the remaining 29 shows on their U.S. tour is frontman Caleb Followill's "vocal issues and exhaustion." But in the concert business, such benign explanations can hide larger issues, as the band's bassist, Jared Followill, suggested via Twitter shortly afterwards. "There are internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be addressed," he wrote. "I can't lie, there are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade."
Friday night, during a show at Dallas' Gexa Energy Pavilion, Caleb Followill reportedly was obsessed with the heat and said the following to the audience: "I'm gonna go backstage and I'm gonna vomit. I'm gonna drink a beer and I'm gonna come back out and play three more songs." He did not come back.
"Exhaustion"-type euphemisms were prevalent last summer: Christina Aguilera canceled her tour before it began due to "prior commitments"; Limp Bizkit called off a planned tour because frontman Fred Durst demanded to play in larger venues; Rihanna canceled at least one date due to "production changes." All, according to numerous sources, were due to surprisingly low ticket sales.
Before that, mysterious cancellations have come from Britney Spears, who canceled a 2004 tour due to a bona fide knee injury, but it turned out to be the beginning of her infamous public meltdown; Mariah Carey, who canceled remaining appearances in 2008 for undisclosed reasons, although just about everybody guessed she was actually pregnant; and Billy Joel, who canceled 2009 shows due to exhaustion, then irked Elton John for not participating in a possible 2010 tour.
Although Dennis Arfa – agent for Joel, Metallica and Rod Stewart – has no knowledge of what's happening within the Kings of Leon camp, "exhaustion" raises a red flag. "Well, I mean, it tells me stuff is goin' on. Something's not right, obviously," he says. "Exhaustion is a label. It doesn't tell you the detail – just says 'exhaustion.' Exhaustion usually means you have issues going on beyond just being physically tired. It's a convenient label."
For Kings of Leon and the band's business partners, it's potentially a costly exhaustion. Lloyd's of London could have to pay as much as $15 million to promoters, venues and others who lost money from the tour. And it may be more difficult than ever for the band to procure insurance on future gigs. "There's a lot of rating factors – whatever the contract says, size of the venue, age of the performer, health of the performer, how far they have to travel, plane, train or automobile," says Elizabeth Wightman, chief operating officer for SteelBridge Insurance, in Santa Cruz, California, which regularly insures large music festivals. "It's kind of like a credit report. You have to earn your reputation over time. Insurance companies are going to be looking at that."

well I guess I got my answer...!

Kings of Leon Cancel U.S. Tour

Singer Caleb Followill is suffering from 'vocal issues and exhaustion'

Kings of Leon Tour
Kings of Leon

Kings of Leon have canceled the remainder of their summer tour in the wake of a disastrous show in Dallas on Friday that was cut short after lead singer Caleb Followill left the stage to vomit. According to the Kings' representative, Followill has been "suffering from vocal issues and exhaustion," and the band have opted to scrap the tour rather than play subpar gigs for their fans.

Due to the Kings' touring commitments abroad, their U.S. shows will not rescheduled. Tickets for those gigs will be refunded at point of purchase, or automatically refunded if ordered online. The band will head back out on tour on September 28th with a show at the Rogers Center in Vancouver, a show originally scheduled for September 14th.

Though the band's official line regarding Caleb Followill's meltdown in Dallas is attributed to exhaustion, comments from his brothers at the concert and on Twitter suggest that he may be dealing with a bigger issue. When apologizing on Twitter, bassist Jared Followill wrote "there are internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be address" and "I know you guys aren't stupid. I can't lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade."
