Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan: 'I will never reform the original line-up'

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has admitted that he will "never reform" the band's original line-up.

The group broke up after releasing their 'Machina II: The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music' album in 2000, although by that point Melissa Auf der Maur had replaced D'arcy Wretzky on bass. Corgan has continued with with a different line-up since the band returned in 2007. Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin was originally involved in the reunion, but has since left, leaving Corgan as the only original member.

"That's [reforming] is just one of those things that are never going to happen," he said.

"The things that have happened between us in the interim haven't been good," he continued. "There's been lawsuits and lots of stupid stuff. It's only made it worse. If it was bad before, it's really bad now."

While the singer admitted he would happily team up with Chamberlin again, he said he could never bury the hatchet with some of the other members.

"There's not super bad blood between me and Jimmy that we'd never get on stage again," Corgan told Rolling Stone.

"But I cannot in any way, shape, or form ever envision standing on a stage, playing music again with [ex-guitarist] James [Iha] and D'arcy. I just don't see any situation where that would be possible."

The singer's comments come after he previously said it was wrong to split the band.

Smashing Pumpkins are set to reissue their 1993 album 'Siamese Dream' plus their 1991 debut 'Gish' and 1994's rarities collection 'Pisces Iscariot'.
