Noel Gallagher: 'Being a solo artist is harder work than being in Oasis'
Asked how he was finding life as a solo artist and if he missed being in Oasis, Gallagher said: "No, I don't say that in a callous way. I don't think about it too much. If it was great I wouldn't have left, if it was all shits and giggles then I'd wouldn't be doing this. I don't miss it, I enjoy what I do now."
He continued: "This is a lot harder work than Oasis was, this is very hard on the brain, Oasis was hard on the soul. This is hard, you've got to be on it every night. When I was in Oasis, I'd shuffle on hungover, having been up late, by the time we got to my bits in the set I'd be very warmed up, but now I've got to be on it from the start."

Kings Of Leon’s Jared Followill and Mona’s Nick Brown unveil new side project
Kings Of Leon bassist Jared Followill and Mona frontman Nick Brown have unveiled the first results of their new side project Smoke & Jackal.
‘No Tell‘ is the debut single from the pair, and is streaming through Soundcloud below.
A six-track EP entitled ‘EP1‘ will follow on October 15th after being recorded earlier this year. According to the duo, ‘No Tell’ was written on the very first night they recorded together at Brown’s studios in Nashville, with the final EP being finished within a week.
“Coming together just worked,” Jared Followill has remarked. “I think it’s because we took such an easy approach to it, we didn’t bring any egos to it. We just talked about each other’s ideas, neither one of us got our feelings hurt. It just worked.”
“It was all about tone and vibe and what felt right in that moment,” Brown adds. “Not second guessing, just having fun in that moment.”

Paul McCartney's Olympics Payday: Around $1.50
by Kory Grow
Performers at the London games' opening ceremony collected a nominal fee for their services (gladly)
Negotiating a fair price for something special is delicate work.
The people who organized the performances at the opening of this year's
London Olympics are masters, though, and each "na-na-na" of Paul
McCartney's "Hey Jude" last Friday cost them mere pence. That's because
artistic director Danny Boyle & Co. paid Sir Paul — and allegedly
the ceremony's other performers, including Arctic Monkeys, Dizzee
Rascal, Underworld, Mike Oldfield and others — a single pound note, or
about US $1.57, for their services. The thing is, Macca and the others had originally agreed to play for free. In order to make their performance contracts legally binding, though, the organizers had to offer up a nominal fee. Scottish R&B singer Emeli Sandé, who performed the hymn "Abide With Me," commented to the London Evening Standard, "I got paid £1 for my work…I signed the contract myself. Mind you, I haven't received anything yet!" Then she added, "When I do, though, that £1 will be truly special."
Like Sandé, the other performers, including McCartney, thought the experience was worth it. "It was a trip and very exciting," the former Beatle commented in the same article. "It was a great opening ceremony." And rapper Dizzee Rascal seems as though he was overwhelmed by the experience. "The energy in the stadium was unreal," he told the Standard. "These opportunities only come by once in a lifetime and to be part of it was an unforgettable experience…I’ve loved being part of the build-up to the event, running with the torch, performing at Hyde Park and getting involved with [Rascal's song] 'Scream' being an official Olympic track — hopefully it will inspire the team to win gold."
US fans outraged by axing of Arctic Monkeys, Emeli Sande, Sex Pistols from Olympics Opening Ceremony
US music fans were left outraged after NBC's
broadcast of the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony failed to
include a number of key musical segments.
Arctic Monkeys' version of The Beatles's 'Come Together' was included in the broadcast, but their performance of 'I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor' was replaced by an advert break, as was Scottish singer Emeli Sande's version of 'Abide With Me', which was sung in tribute to the victims of the terrorist bombings in London on July 7, 2005.
The segment which featured Sex Pistols hit 'Pretty Vacant' was cut from the final NBC broadcast and Frank Turner's appearance in the prologue to the ceremony was also ignored. Twenty-four advert breaks were placed into the four hour long Opening Ceremony, reports Yahoo, which was screened free of commercials live on BBC One last Friday (July 27).
Stateside music fans watching the delayed broadcast took to Twitter and began using the hashtag #nbcsucks when it became clear that the channel was not showing the full event. NME blogger Lyndsey Parker wrote:

Seems NBC edited like 15 minutes out of the musical portion of Olympics opening ceremony. No punk tribute, no Britpop section. #nbcsucks
She also added: "Ummm, did NBC really cut to commercial RIGHT when Arctic Monkeys started to perform "I Bet You Look Good..." at Opening Ceremony? #nbcsucks"

Beady Eye - What's the Story Morning Glory - Heaton Park Manchester 30-0...
Noel Gallagher: 'Beady Eye should play my songs whenever they like'
Beady Eye performed two Oasis songs - 'Rock 'N' Roll Star' and 'Morning Glory' - during their recent gig in Warrington and at Heaton Park supporting The Stone Roses and have vowed to continue to do so in all their future live shows.
Speaking in The Sun today (July 11), Noel said he hopes Beady Eye carry on playing the songs as long as they make sure they fill out PRS royalty forms after they do.
He said of this: "Beady Eye have my permission to play my songs and they should do whatever they like. I say he should go around the world, do those songs and fill out the PRS forms."
Beady Eye are booked to play this summer's Fuji Rock Festival in Japan and are currently working on new material for their second album.
Here's a quick YouTube clip of Beady Eye finally performing Oasis songs!

The Killers new song 'Runaways' -
The track is the first to be taken from forthcoming album 'Battle Born'The Killers have unveiled their brand new single, 'Runaways'.
The track received its first official play on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show earlier this evening (July 10) and is now available to listen to online.
Scroll down to hear the track, which is a typically epic offering from the Las Vegas band, a heartland electro rocker complete with soaring chorus.
Speaking to Lowe, Killers frontman Brandon Flowers admitted that he checks online to see what the reaction to his songs is like. Of 'Runaways', which had leaked earlier in the day, he said: "I'm guilty of checking, seeing what the scoop is. I want people to like it, so I'm kind of curious as to what the reaction is."
He added that he was confident that the song would go down well with fans, saying: "I've always felt good about this song. It's exciting to think that we're gonna be playing again – we want people to hear this new stuff."
The Killers's new studio album 'Battle Born' will be released on September 17. A series of producers worked on the album, including Madonna collaborator Stuart Price, Steve Lillywhite, Damian Taylor and Brendan O'Brien. It is the band's first album for over four years.
Songs confirmed to appear on the album include 'Heart Of A Girl', 'Flesh And Bone' and 'Carry Me Home'. Brandon Flowers said to Lowe of the album title: "Whenever I needed help lyrically, I thought of that phrase and it helped me… There's some triumphant moments."

The Strokes - Is this It
Confirmed: The Strokes working on fifth album
The Strokes have begun work on the follow-up to 'Angles', NME can confirm.
The band, who were last in the UK to headline last summer's Reading And Leeds Festivals, were reported to have been working on new material at the famous Electric Lady Studios in their home city of New York earlier this month, but this was quickly denied by their management and record label.
However, in this week's NME guitarist Albert Hammond Junior's father Albert Hammond Senior has revealed that the reports are true and the band are in fact working on their fifth studio album.
Asked if the band were recording, Hammond Senior said: "Albert says that the stuff they're doing is incredible. They're doing it themselves with their friend, engineer and producer. He just says 'Dad, it's incredible'."
Then asked if he thought it would sound different from 'Angles', he said: "I don't think they'll go in a wildly different direction. Obviously the songs will be different, but I think The Strokes are The Strokes; they always will be The Strokes."

Hello everyone,We’ll keep you posted next week when those shows are rescheduled.
As you will probably have heard the roof over the stage collapsed at our show in Toronto killing crew member Scott Johnson and injuring three other crew members. The collapse also destroyed the light show – this show was unique and will take many weeks to replace. The collapse also caused serious damage to our backline, some elements of which are decades old and therefore hard to replace.
Whilst we all are dealing with the grief and shock ensuing from this terrible accident there are also many practical considerations to deal with & consequently we have to try and reschedule the following shows:
June
30 Roma Hippodrome Capanelle
July
1 Firenze Parco delle Cascine
3 Bologna Arena Parco Nord
4 Codroipo Villa Manin
6 Berlin Wuhlheide
7 Berlin Wuhlheide
9 St Triphon Carriere des Andonces
We aim to announce the new dates for these shows on Wednesday 27th of June and will also supply information on how to obtain refunds on tickets if you cannot come to the show on the new date.
We will start playing live again at Les Arenes Nimes, Bilbao BBK festival and Lisbon Optimus Alive festival.
We will make every effort to offer the fans the very best show possible under the circumstances – thanks for your understanding and support.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - "Everybody's On The Run" (Official ...
The video, which is set in Los Angeles, stars Gallagher as a taxi driver who picks up Mischa Barton and drops her off, only to drive off with her dress stuck in the door, leaving her forced to chase after him in her underwear.
The track itself will be released on August 6 and will be accompanied by a new remix of Gallagher's previous single 'AKA...What A Life!' by the Amorphous Androgynous.
The mix follows the band's previous reworking of 'If I Had A Gun', which was retitled 'Shoot A Hole Into The Sun' and appeared on previous single 'Dream On'. Gallagher is currently working on an album with the band which he recently revealed to NME, will come out some time next year.
Check out the official vid...nice!

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under The Bridge (Video)
RHCP Fans Found Anthony Keidis' "Under The Bridge" Bridge
The bridge has been found! We think...Apparently Red Hot Chili Pepper superfans have discovered the location of the dreadful bridge that Anthony Kiedis diligently sings about in that positive song that you've probably heard once or twice, "Under The Bridge". Sense the sarcasm? Kiedis has failed to provide exact coordinates of the bridge's location for the past twenty years due to the negative effect it has on his life (I mean just listen to the lyrics..), so Vulture did some serious extensive research in search of the mythed about bridge. It's location apparently lies in MacArthur Park in LA. As Vulture writes, "It links Sixth and Union — the intersection Kiedis claims he was walking toward — with the drug dealers at Seventh and Hoover. And, unlike the other bridges, it provides a discreet location for private time with personal demons."

Van Halen "Panama" HQ Live from The Amway Arena Orlando Florida April 12...

The band yanked more than 30 long-planned dates, including shows in Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, Salt Lake City and El Paso. Local promoters United Concerts and AEG issued statements regarding some postponed shows to local media, including the Salt Lake Tribune and Las Cruces Sun-News, but no details have been offered yet about rescheduled dates or refunds.
Nearly all of the tour is promoted by Live Nation, whose reps wouldn't comment. The band's rep also had no comment. A source with knowledge of the tour tells Rolling Stone that Van Halen's members "hate each other." Adds the source, "The band is arguing like mad. They are fighting."
News of the postponed tour dates surprised several arena reps, who are featuring upcoming Van Halen shows prominently on their websites. "You want to know the absolute fuckin' truth? I have no fuckin' idea," another concert-business source with knowledge of the tour tells Rolling Stone.
"It's selling pretty good – I don't know why they would say it's being canceled," says a source at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, where the band was supposed to perform on July 7th.
Several of the non-canceled dates have nearly sold out, including this Saturday's show in Minneapolis and June 20th in Dallas. "We're selling really well," says Jack Larson, vice president and general manager of the Xcel Energy Center. "We're looking forward to it."
After decades of touring with Sammy Hagar (and, for a brief period in the late 1990s, Gary Cherone), Van Halen reunited with David Lee Roth for a 2007 tour and hit the road again with him in February. The band released its first new album with Roth, "A Different Kind of Truth," earlier that month. It sold 187,000 copies in its debut week and hit Number Two.
Fortunately, I was able to see them last April...here's a quick vid:

Beastie Boys album sales rocket after MCA's death
Sales of Beastie Boys albums have rocketed since the death of Adam 'MCA' Yauch last Friday (May 4), Billboard reports. The hip-hop trio sold 55,000 albums last week, up from 4,000 the previous week – which is a 1,235 per cent increase in sales.
This means that 'Licenced To Ill', which was the first rap album to ever enter the US Billboard 200 chart, is now at Number 18 after 19,000 copies were sold.
The band's other albums – 'Paul's Boutique', 'Hot Sauce Committee Part Two', 'Ill Communication', 'Check Your Head' and ' Beastie Boys Anthology: The Sounds of Science' are also now back in the Billboard 200.
In addition, Beastie Boys sold 151,000 downloads last week, up 949 per cent gain from the 14,000 they sold the week before.
Billboard predict that sales could be even bigger next week, after a full week's impact from Yauch's death is seen on the charts.
In total, the band released eight albums. Their last album, 'Hot Sauce Committee Part Two', was released last year. It was originally planned for released in 2009 but was delayed after Yauch was diagnosed with cancer of the preaortic gland and lymph node in July of that year.

RIP MCA!
Adam 'MCA' Yauch of the Beastie Boys dies at 47
By Michael Pearson, CNN
updated 5:34 PM EDT, Fri May 4, 2012
A torrent of Twitter messages from entertainers lauded Yauch, 47, as a visionary musical artist, filmmaker and humanitarian.
"He stood for integrity as an artist. What a loss. He was a very good man," said actor Ben Stiller.
Yauch revealed in 2009 that he had a cancerous tumor in a salivary gland. As a result, the band canceled its scheduled concerts and delayed the release of an album.
"I started feeling this little lump in my throat, like you would feel if you have swollen glands or something like that, like you'd feel if you have a cold, so I didn't really think it was anything," he said then in a video to fans.
Yauch, a self-taught bassist and vocalist, underwent surgery to treat the tumor that year.

Remembering Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys
The Beastie Boys, who blended punk and rap, burst on the music scene in 1986 with the album "Licensed to Ill," which included hits such as "(You Gotta) Fight for the Right (to Party"), an anthem to teen angst; "Brass Monkey" and "No Sleep Till Brooklyn."
The group came together for the first time to play at Yauch's 17th birthday party, its publicist said.
Yauch was the oldest of the Beastie Boys, an only child who grew up in Brooklyn Heights, according to Current Biography magazine. The band, which also featured Michael "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Adrock" Horovitz, sold more than 40 million records and had four No.1 records.
The Beastie Boys' success in hip-hop was notable at a time when the music form was dominated by African-American performers.
"The group's music crossed genres and color lines, and helped bring rap to a wider audience," said Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy.
Yauch was unable to attend the band's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last month. Horovitz read Yauch's acceptance letter.
Under an alias, Yauch directed several Beastie Boys videos, including "Intergalactic" and "So What'cha Want."
Yauch converted to Buddism in the 1990s after visiting Nepal and hearing the Dalai Lama speak in Arizona, he told the Buddhist magazine Shambhala sun in 1995.
"It just seemed like Buddhism, especially Tibetan Buddhism -- because that's mainly what I've been exposed to -- was a real solid organization of teachings to point someone in the right direction," the magazine quoted him as saying. "Some real well thought out stuff. But I don't know, like, every last detail about Buddhism."
The conversion led him to have second thoughts about the bawdy party-boy image the band portrayed in the 1980s, he told the Boston Globe in 1998.
"I didn't realize how much harm I was doing back then and I think a lot of rap artists probably don't realize it now," the newspaper quoted him as saying. "I said a lot of stuff fooling around back then, and I saw it do a lot of harm. I had kids coming up to me and saying, 'Yo, I listen to your records while I'm smoking dust, man.' And I'd say, 'Hey, man, we're just kidding. I don't smoke dust.' People need to be more aware of how they're affecting people."
As a Buddhist, Yauch became an advocate for Tibetan freedom.
He founded the Milarepa Fund, which helped raise money for the effort, and organized charity concerts involving the Beastie Boys and other acts, including the first Tibetan Freedom Concert in 1996. Several similar concerts followed.
The Milarepa Fund also organized a 9/11 benefit concert for residents deemed least likely to get aid from other sources.
Yauch also founded Oscilloscope Laboratories, which was active in independent video distribution. Its founder directed the basketball documentary "Gunnin' For That #1 Spot," released in 2008.
"Adam was incredibly sweet and the most sensitive artist, who I loved dearly," said music impresario Russell Simmons, co-founder of Def Jam, which released "Licensed to Ill."
"I was always inspired by his work," Simmons said. "He will be missed by all of us."
Yauch is survived by his wife, Dechen; a daughter, Tenzin Losel; and his parents, according to the band's publicist.
Check out the classic "Gratitude." MCA....you will be missed!
