Video: Kings Of Leon debut new track in California

Kings Of Leon unveiled the brand new track ‘Always The Same‘ during their gig at the Bottle Rock Music & Arts festival in Napa Valley, California last weekend. You can watch an audience recording of the performance below.

The track is likely to appear on the band’s forthcoming sixth studio album, which is now completed and pencilled in for release this September. “I thought we were going to make a really mature album but I’m amazed how youthful it sounds,” bassist Jared Followill has told NME. “It’s like a mix of ‘Youth & Young Manhood’ and ‘Because Of The Times’.”
Followill’s comments confirmed predictions which he offered to BBC 6Music last year, when he revealed:
“We are in the writing process right now and it’s coming along pretty quickly,” he explained. “We’ll definitely get into the studio but you know we have no plans of finishing it this year but definitely early next year, so I think people should expect something from us sooner rather than later.”

Quick Paramore update...

 

 

Hayley Williams has been sick for the past few days, which resulted in Paramore having to cancel tonight's (5/6) Salt Lake City show. Read a statement from Hayley breaking down her current situation:

"Hey everybody,

    First of all… Salt Lake City, I am so sorry that we had to cancel our show. There aren’t many things I regret more than letting our fans down. Canceling shows is a big deal to all of us and I tried so hard just to push through them but unfortunately that wasn’t the smartest idea for my health. Canceling was the last resort and again I’m sorry it came down to that.

    Maybe I can just quickly try explain what’s going on, so you hear it straight from me. This started last week when we were meant to play Conan… And I woke up feeling really sick. I thought it was just a sore throat but didn’t want to risk not being well for our own shows, so we cancelled. I stayed in and got some food and of course, caught food poisoning from it… Because, why not? Not to get all graphic on you but it was a lot like that scene in The Exorcist where she projectile pukes green and it’s really violent. That ended up burning my throat which made it sore all over again. Then to make matters worse I woke up a couple of days later having gotten some sort of virus, which is what I’m still dealing with now.

    And there you have it. Clearly, it has not been my week. I wish that my being sick didn’t affect so many people and again, I am terribly sorry to everyone who I have let down by not being able to perform tonight.

    Thanks to everyone who’s sent me a get well soon message or any kind of support over the last week. So thankful that music has connected us.

A couple weeks ago I wrote complimentary things about “Flick Of The Finger,” the first track to be released from BE, the second album from Beady Eye (aka Oasis sans Noel Gallagher). Now we’ve got another new one, and man, I like this even more than the first. Dave Sitek produced BE, and there are definitely textural and instrumental similarities to TV On The Radio here (especially in the incredible horns that propel the track). It’s retro as hell, yeah, but Sitek treats that (essential) aspect of the band’s identity with a wink, and in doing so, makes it feel oddly contemporary. Liam Gallagher has got a million effects on his voice, to the extent that I can’t tell if he’s actually singing this thing at all, but whatever the hell is happening, it sounds fantastic. Listen.

New Twitter App!

Twitter officially launched a new music service today (4/18), simply called 'Twitter #music', which is available via the web along with iOS devices (Android is coming soon). Twitter explained the app in a blog post which you can read about here. The primary aim of the app, which is available as a platform separate from Twitter's stand-alone main page, is to allow users to discover music based on what other users are tweeting about. In other words, Twitter is trying to become another music-recommendation machine. The free app consists of four pages/tabs: "Emerging", for "hidden talent", "Popular", which displays what's trending on Twitter, and two personal tabs focusing on people you follow as well as songs "suggested" based on your tastes. Coachella 2013: Phoenix Bring Out R. Kelly for Triumphant Headlining Set

Phoenix pulled off a major Coachella surprise on Saturday, but it wasn't the Daft Punk cameo that festival-goers had been buzzing over: About three-quarters of the way through the band's joyous, two-years-in-the-making headlining set, R. Kelly – the Chicago R&B star who shares little if anything in common with the French rockers – belted one of his best known lyrics from offstage, shocking virtually everyone: "My mind's telling me no! But my body . . . my body's telling me yes!" Seconds later, Kelly and Phoenix leader Thomas Mars were arm in arm and duetting on "Ignition," Kelly's sexy 2003 Chocolate Factory smash, as the band jammed out to its own "1901" riffs, then segued into the even-loucher "I'm a Flirt." The whole thing lasted less than five minutes, but that was plenty of time to send fans into a frenzy – not that Phoenix needed the help. They were tight, propulsive and supremely confident all night, their painstakingly-planned set demonstrating exactly how to hold an overstimulated Coachella crowd's attention.
Phoenix's giddiest synth-pop singles, from "1901" to "Fences" and "Lisztomania," came sprinkled between new tunes from their upcoming Bankrupt! LP that venture into more far-out places, but never sagged live. A romantic at heart, Mars was obviously feeling extra mushy on this night, bounding about the stage and hugging his bandmates at the knees. "For the last two years, we've been thinking about tonight," he gushed. By the time Mars ended the night by running to the lighting riser and crowd-surfing his way back to the stage, Springsteen-style, fans were more than happy to lift him off into the stratosphere.
